There's nothing like an imminent natural disaster to get people moving. In one sense, this is just the logical extreme of Chandler's Law. if the plot/story/game isn't moving fast enough, turn the danger up to eleven and let the characters figure out what to do.

That all sounds about right. Okay, maybe not the rusting bit what with the whole "salt planet" thing, but that's probably a reasonable description for what salt erosion could do to metal anyway. That all fits the Used Aesthetic of Star Wars better as well, so they'll likely be just as effective as the "state-of-the-art" First Order equipment.
Earthquakes? Hmmm. That's probably AT-ATs walking toward the base if it's First Order caused. Sure, it'd be like a repeat of the Episode V fight then with the weird fliers, but we'd get to have the opposite outcome of the fight! If this isn't AT-ATs showing up though, then it could be a very interesting hazard. Giant chasms likely wouldn't do much. How about something like salt crystal geysers? Big plumes of salt shards exploding upwards could make for quite the spectacle for the skim speeders to dodge around while fighting the First Order's fliers.

GM: Let me see.
Finn: Poe, we gotta talk.
GM: Rotting firearms, rusting artillery, some half-gutted skim speeders.
Poe: Right! We go on the offensive!
Finn: A... Against the First Order? They have state-of-the-art weapons and vehicles. We won’t stand a chance.
Rose: Audacious... Exhilarating... Perilous... I like it!
Finn: Whose side are you on?
Poe: She’s right! Incredible danger and heroism! Can it get any better?
[SFX]: Rumble...
[SFX]: clatter clatter clatter
GM: Suddenly the ground shakes. Dust falls from the ceiling.
Rose: Earthquake?
[SFX]: clatter clatter clatter

Poe: Oh, it’s like all my Life Days have come at once!
