Episode 2564: Coin-cidence

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Always leave loose ends at the end of an adventure. Keep the players wanting more. Sure, you can have them defeat the villain, prevent the disaster, slay the dragon, recover the treasure. But always have that weird magical ring that seems innocuous but could have some malevolent backstory behind it. The relic that someone in a land far away seeks. The niggling feeling that not all of the traps and curses have been dealt with.

You want your players to have something to look forward to.

Commentary by memnarch (who has not seen the movie)

I don't think you'll ever end up getting a new dreadnought Pete, and the GM or your fellow players would probably end up getting it destroyed like your previous one if you did manage it anyway.

Anyone wanna bet that this is just the GM putting down mysterious breadcrumbs for the players and Pete is the one actually coming up with this plot twist? It wouldn't be the first time! The funny thing he seems to be glossing over, though, is that encoded data is useless until it's been decoded. And that Nute appears to have tried removing all of the real charts from the Galaxy so far, so that'd be a stretch to have the backup be useable. You didn't actually have Artoo do any decoding and code running yet, did you Pete?

Transcript

C-3PO: If Anakin’s finally dead, what loose ends do we have left?
R2-D2: Let’s see. No Lost Orb of Phanastacoria. I still don’t have a dreadnought.
C-3PO: Did we figure out what Nute was up to with the Galactic maps?
R2-D2: No.
R2-D2: Wait. Caluan Ematt said there is more in Luke’s Ahch-To log than just the map...
R2-D2: The differences between reality and published nav charts... Steganography...
R2-D2: Holy memory marbles! Nute encoded data in them!
C-3PO: What would need that much data?
R2-D2: A full neural simulation. It’s a backup copy of Nute! In case all the others get destroyed!
C-3PO: Isn’t that in your memory?
R2-D2: Ohhhh crap...
R2-D2: If I had a wupiupi for every time I’ve been taken over by Nute, I’d have two wupiupi. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.
