Always have an escape plan.
Even a stupid plan is better than no plan at all. At least a stupid plan has some chance of working.
Even if it involves spontaneous generation of wildebeest from quantum fluctuations.

Hardly surprising that Kylo deflects these shots easily. I am curious though why he didn't immediately do the time-freezing thing on Rey like Poe was hit with. If the goal is to stop her from completing her training, death would be a very permanent way of doing so. Maybe Kylo can't actually do anything else to people at the same time? With no troopers nearby to grab Rey afterwards, they'd be in an awkward stalemate of sorts. It could also be a terror thing to show just how outclassed Rey is before trapping her in frozen time; that would fit quite well with how Sith all seem to behave in the movies.
Also curious is why the GM is narrating the actions. The players know that Kylo is played by Sally, so there's no need to hide that fact. Perhaps Sally had to step away for some time; I've seen some GMs play a PC's characters before when the PC had to leave for a bit. They couldn't (or wouldn't) give the character the same amount of personality as the player due to the need to manage all the other NPCs, so minimal descriptions were usually the go-to method. This usually only happened when the missing PC's character was integral to the plot as well. In-comic, something like that would handily explain Kylo acting strange here.

GM: The figure wears a dark mask and hood.
Rey: Fire! 16!
[SFX]: Pow!
GM: <roll>
[SFX]: krtzang!
GM: The figure deflects it with ease.
Rey: I retreat into the cleft, firing shots every few steps.
[SFX]: Pow!
[SFX]: Krtzang!
GM: The figure advances between the rocks, swatting away your bolts.
Rey: Aha! I scramble up to higher ground, leaving them in the gorge!
BB-8: Good job. Now you just need a stampede of wildebeest to come through.
GM: The figure strides up the rocks to be level with you.
Rey: Oh come on. At least roll for the wildebeest!
[SFX]: whmmm...
GM: Tell me that wasn’t your entire plan.
Rey: No, but why look a gift wildebeest in the mouth?
