Rules revisions to existing games usually expand the rules. They add more stuff to cover more cases and offer more options and cool stuff.

But are some cases where there could well be traction to be gained by advertising your revision as having less material in it.

Commentary by memnarch (who has not seen the movie)

Well, I was hoping to see how Finn did on the first clash, but this is pretty good too.

I guess this explains why Snoke had them as guards. If they're good enough to handle two Force users in lightsaber combat without all of them instantly being bisected or losing a limb, they could probably handle just about anyone. Such a shame they were all like 100 feet away from where they could do any good.... no wait, they've probably got no Force powers either. So Snoke would still have trouble finding a pair of suitable pants.

I am completely unsurprised that Pete is excited for new grappling rules. I will also be completely unsurprised if he's already read through the book and knows just what to do in this case. Sure, Rey is going to win this fight somehow. But also, this is Pete the big rules lawyer (and literal lawyer) of this gaming group. And even if he hasn't read it, he'll easily find a way to work things to his advantage just by asking tricky questions.

GM: A guard swings at Kylo. <roll> Make a Disarm save or drop your sword.
Kylo Ren: Ugh. 4.
[SFX]: whoooosh! {the guard swinging a weapon}
[SFX]: drop {Kylo drops his sword}
[SFX]: whoooosh! {the guard swings again}
GM: He presses you with an electro-bisento.
Kylo Ren: I grab his weapon! 15!
GM: That’s a grapple!
Kylo Ren: Why are you so pleased?
GM: I have the new streamlined grappling rules. Only 400 pages. Oh, this will be good.
[SFX]: whoooom!! {Rey swings her sword}
Rey: I attack the other remaining guard! 10! I suppose he tries to block?
GM: Good idea! <roll> His vibro-arbir blade intercepts your blow.
[SFX]: kzrrzzk!
Rey: I like how these increasingly exotic weapons still have the same old techy words in front.
GM: With your weapons locked together—
Rey: Oh, no, please don’t grapple... Please, please...
GM: —he grapples you!
Rey: Please, Br’er Guard, don’t fling me into that 400 pages of intricate, twisty, prickly rules interactions!
GM: Oh...
