Episode 2263: Book Report

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

People have lives - even archvillains, or the heroes' superiors. Just because you want to talk to them doesn't mean they're ready or available.

So when your heroes try to contact anyone, be it a superior, an equal, or just someone random they are calling for information, you can add in a complication that the person they're trying to contact is busy. They could be in the shower, cooking dinner, doing the grocery shopping, catching a bus, whatever. Play up the humour a little if your game isn't deadly serious and gritty.

Commentary by memnarch (who has not seen the movie)

Ahahaha! That's even better than I thought it was going to be! And also good to have confirmation Snoke is meant to be the Emperor analogue for the sequel trilogy, even through the different directors (setting aside Nute as the main comic bad guy behind everything). I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've seen him use a Force power. This is a heck of a lot more dramatic for the minions around General Hux as well. Darth Vader's Force Choking is very menacing, but it's also a lot more subdued and personal. For Snoke, as either a projected or literal giant being, anything less than dramatic wouldn't do.

Things like this definitely make it obvious to me why the Irregulars had to wait for all of the Episodes to come out. Imagine if the GM had played Snoke in the previous Episode. They're a great GM and are pretty skilled at a multitude of voices and accents, but a grasp of the bombastic is something they don't seem to have quite yet. This kind of visual practically demands a bombastic and hammy presentation. If this is an extremely different scene in the movie, I think I'm going to be disappointed.

Transcript

Bridge Monitor: Orders, sir?
General Hux: Get Administrator Snoke on the line.
GM: Sally, you’re up.
Snoke: General Hux. This had better be important.
General Hux: Well, you see, Administrator—
Snoke: I was having a bath.
General Hux: Sorry, Admi—
[SFX]: Slam! {Hux is thrown to the floor by the Force}
Snoke: I was into a good book.
[SFX]: crunch!
Snoke: People don’t read enough any more, you know. Written words are wisdom from our past.
[SFX]: Drag... {Hux is Force dragged along the floor towards Snoke's hologram}
General Hux: {getting up to his knees} I understand, sir. Do you want news of our assault on the Resistance base?
Snoke: Oh, I just assumed you’d bollixed it up as usual.
{beat, Hux looks up sheepishly at Snoke}
General Hux: I’ll just let you get back to your book, then.
Snoke: Good idea.
