There are two reactions to being put in a situation that's impossible to survive. Damn well survive anyway, or score heroic sacrifice brownie points by taking the enemy out with you.
Either one is cool, so have no hesitation putting your players into these situations!

Huh, I'd thought Nix the bombardier was the only casualty so far, but I guess it makes sense if the whole top of the bomber got the shrapnel hit. It's a shame though, as that means that the bomber essentially blows itself up instead of getting shot down by those two TIE fighters just after the bombs are released. I think that would have worked a lot better to show just how close things were to none of the bombers succeeding.
Hmmm. Since Paige is definitely dying here, where does that leave Tallie? Is she going to show up more in the movie later? That would be a decent way to have Ben continue to be able to play in each big scene if so. I'm just not sure what exactly that would bring to the movie at the moment. Maybe that will get cleared up later once the whole scene of the space fight is finished and the rest of the fleet has hyper-jumped somewhere else to regroup again.

GM: The bombs drop towards the Fulminatrix.
[SFX]: drop drop drop
[SFX]: Boom!
GM: Direct hit amidships!
GM: But... The Cobalt Hammer is pilotless, disabled, and falling towards the growing explosion! Pete?
Paige: Well. Rey and Artoo will be back pretty soon, so I really don’t need another character.
GM: You’re not... going to try to survive?
Paige: I’m sure if I wanted to I could. The greater challenge here is accepting my fate.
Allan: Can I heroically sacrifice myself too?!
Tallie: Flying into the explosion won’t achieve anything.
Allan: It’ll be a sacrifice!
Tallie: It won’t be heroic.
Paige: I get to upstage Jim? That just made this easier...
[SFX]: Ka-Boom! {the Cobalt Hammer falls into the explosion}
