If a group of heroes have some goal in mind, NPCs can come in and try to distract them from it. They can do this by raising new problems, suggesting different courses of action, or even just mentioning random stuff that actually isn't important at all. In fact the latter may be the most effective, because you just know that they'll latch onto the most trivial and unimportant details and obsess over them, while forgetting about the important stuff.

Hmmmmm. If I was trying to convince someone to follow my evil ways, I think I would probably avoid being obviously evil at first. Or at least creatively lie about being good. And that's assuming I'm not deluded and I actually believe I'm completely good at the same time. Pete's really getting into roleplaying as well as this should be something he'd know as well.
Now, with the in-comic setup of everyone getting a different role in the plan, having the group split up later in-movie would have been a reasonable guess then. But having seen the panels so far, I can't think why a split-up would happen. After that tense moment, I could see Finn stepping away for a bit, but not Rey.
But, there's no reason things would need to actually have happened in this order. Maybe there was a brief split up before getting to this table. The Kylo Ren scene had to happen somewhere (now, as part of another scene later, as a flashback in another Episode) and we don't actually see the group sit down at the table. I'm definitely curious where this scene will end up going and what it actually was in the movie now.
Anyone else think Sally's trying to one-up the GM here? I think she'll do a pretty good job of that based on what we know about Corey's campaign.

Rey: But the Jedi were good. My Master told me.
Darth Kanata: Oh? You know a Jedi Master?
Darth Kanata: I really need that drink.
Yanni: Right, yeah, what was I thinking? Finn, you’re up.
Darth Kanata: While you’re getting drinks, see those two over there? They might have some death sticks. Go ask them.
Yanni: And Rey, you and BB-8 need to find a laser sword.
Darth Kanata: Laser sword? I’ve got an old one downstairs.
Yanni: Great, go check it out.
Rey: Shouldn’t we figure out the map together?
Yanni: Relax, kid. Splitting up is clearly the optimal strategy here.
GM: How many more NPCs do you want Sally to play?
Darth Kanata: All of them!
