Episode 962: A Queue Tangle

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Three dimensions gives you a lot of space to work with. If there are a hundred battleships in orbit and you have to get off the planet... just aim at the enormous gaps between them. Most spaceship combat is going to take place at ranges of thousands of kilometres or more. If you're building a ship for a space game, make sure you equip it with the longest range weapons you can get your hands on.

And maybe pack some close range ones just in case.

Transcript

Leia: Troop carriers will assemble at the north entrance.
Major Derlin, 2nd Lord Clabburn: But the Clabburn Range... we're leaving it wide open!
Leia: We're abandoning Hoth! Two fighter escorts per transport ship. Stay close to your transports.
Derek "Hobbie" Klivian: Two fighters against a star destroyer?
Leia: We're not going to fly at the star destroyers. Space is big.
Leia: They've gone into fixed orbits. We just...
Leia: Actually, you know what? Fly as close to them as you can.
Derek "Hobbie" Klivian: That's suicide!
Leia: No, their guns will be calibrated for ultra-long range. They won't be able to track high angular speed targets. It's the last thing they'll expect.
Major Derlin, 2nd Lord Clabburn: They won't expect us to fortify the Clabburn Range, either!
