Players never forget items that they acquire during a game.
They may not realistically be able to carry them, or walk through narrow dungeon corridors with them, or keep them from the prying eyes of the king's tax collectors, but they will never, ever forget that they have them.

Obi-Wan: I'll take the boy to Tatooine. He has family there, and more remote than Padmé's on Naboo.
GM: You have no way to get there. Your fighter was destroyed by clone troopers hunting down Jedi.
R2-D2: I have a ship. Oh yeah. Space. Dreadnought. I've been working on it but—
Obi-Wan: Good. I'll take that.
R2-D2: —it's not quite ready for flight yet.
Obi-Wan: Oh?
R2-D2: I haven't brought all the weapons systems back online.
Obi-Wan: Is that all?
R2-D2: Well I'm not going to fly it like that.
Obi-Wan: Don't worry, I'll borrow it and bring it right back.
R2-D2: Sure, but only because we're such excellent friends.
Obi-Wan: Right... thanks.
R2-D2: Did I mention it has no guidance system?
