The interesting thing is, many PCs really do act this way when interacting with authority figures and rulers. Where proper courtesy demands such things as curtseying and bowing and kissing of feet and so on before humbly requesting assistance with matters of great importance to the security of the realm, a player character rat-catcher can get away with sauntering up to the king and demanding cheaper prices for rat traps.

Palpatine: Yes, I know. Unfortunately she's... unconventional in her approach to diplomacy; and very headstrong.

Yoda: Senator Amidala, good to see you again, it is.

Palpatine: Alas, the Jedi Council have no votes.
Mace Windu: We don't?

Palpatine: As Chancellor, I must respect the will of the Senate, M'Lady.
Padmé: We should have kept the old Chancellor. He really knew how to get things done.
