Sometimes the mania takes you. Sometimes you just wanna blow stuff up. In the biggest, most spectacular way possible. In a roleplaying game, you might get the chance. It's gonna have consequences, and your character might well not survive, but the chance to do something amazing is sitting right there, staring you in the face. When are you ever going to get this chance again?
You should take it.

So this means that we could end up with a really weird outcome of Poe activating the hyperdrive then? I don't think Poe ends up dead from this, but I'm not sure how the ship time-traveling* would get him out of being on the ship crashing. The time bending/focusing/traveling thing is likely comic only anyway (with the exception of that Force power), but if Poe is the one that does the ship ramming, then there's gotta be something funky happening here. It does seem like we're actually crashing this ship rather than boarding, so it feels like there's less chance of survival now for that to be a thing as well.
Also, I realized that this is kinda like Episode I. Blowing up the ship like this would send a message that they're not to be messed with! Ok, maybe the message here would be, "We're crazy and shouldn't be trusted with explosives or spaceships", but that's a great message if you want to be left alone. Good comic excuse for the players to set up at Crait perhaps?
* It's not really time travel if there's trickery, but close enough.

BB-8: He’s gonna ram the ship...
Finn: Poe! We’re almost at the computers. We can disable the fleet from here. We just need more time!
Poe: Okay. But then I ram the ship!
Kaydel Ko Connix: {sotto voce} What a family. Rey and her mother out of action and we have to save things with a mutiny.
Rose: Yeah! If you want boys to respect you, you have to show them that you’re serious. Blow something up!
Finn: Whose side are you on?
Rose: I thought we were all on the same side.
Poe: Clear the bridge! I’m gonna fire up the hyperdrive.
Poe: I sit in the captain’s chair.
C-3PO: Commander Dameron, there’s something you should be aware of. The hyperdrive modulator is Galen Erso technology.
Poe: Yeah?
C-3PO: It works by manipulating time. It finds a time when the forward vector was clear, and tricks the drive into activating.
Poe: Are you saying I could go down in history?
C-3PO: Well, kind of literally speaking, in the worst possible way, yes.
Poe: Awesome.
