Thermodynamics can make for good gaming moments. You just need to put a bit of thought into applying it properly, instead of playing around with cinematic tropes.
Take lava, for example. We all know a big lake of lava is cool (metaphorically speaking), but they are often presented as unrealistically cool. That stuff is over a thousand degrees in your favourite temperature measuring units, and radiates heat like nobody's business.
But stick a lava lake in an adventure setting with obvious stepping stones across it and watch as players try to have their characters step carefully across! You may as well just start rolling buckets of fire damage as soon as they see the lava - it'll be easier on everyone that way.

Oh that's a good alien. I'm reminded of a capybara crossed with an orangutan. Here's hoping that we get to see more of them in the future!
I'm curious where Wedge could be hanging out that he'd be able to get this sort of info. Did he shapeshift into a trooper and sneak aboard the Peace Moon at a previous point? That'd give him live updates, but that also seems like the sort of thing the players should have as available knowledge. Hacked into the sensor system? That could work reasonably well, though that'd also open up the possibility for someone like Pete to also do the same thing which the GM might not want.
And man, I don't think anyone's dressed for that level of cold. At the very least, everyone on the outside of the planet would get a few days to get inside or find a ship to leave if they can still see, but the rapid change to almost no visible light would be very creepy. I hope we'll get to see something like that happen; that feels like a really cool, if implausible, special effect that Star Wars might try to show.

GM: Back at the Resistance base on D’Qar:
Kaydel Ko Connix: General, our fighters are taking heavy losses.
Leia: Any word from Zeppo? Or Rey?
Kaydel Ko Connix: What do you think?
Leia: I’m always hopeful.
Vober Dand: Wedge reports that the sun is completely destroyed, but it’ll be a while before they notice that from Endor.
C-3PO: With no sun the temperature will drop rapidly. Their joints could freeze up!
Leia: I hope they find Rey quickly. She’s not dressed for the cold.
Kaydel Ko Connix: Rey, Rey, Rey! She’s like the big sister I always wished I had just so I could hate her.
