Episode 2021: Avoidage of the Down Treader

Nothing causes more hesitation than the GM saying, "Do you really want to do that?"

If you want to mix it up a bit, say, "Wait. You really want to do that? Okay..." and immediately roll a handful of dice before the player can say, "No!"

Aw. As out of place as it would have been in movie, Rey blasting the stairs on her way down would have been extremely funny. Alternatively amusing would have been climbing down the walls instead of walking down the stairs. At least BB-8's there to act awkwardly amusing. They certainly seem to manage stairs better than R2-D2 did though.

And hey, with how old this place is, I can totally seem a volley of arrows or spikes coming out of walls happening. There's even the mishmash of game rules in place from Episode VI! In-movie though, there's still no reason to have any dangerous stuff down here as far as I can tell. There haven't been any obvious safety or trap mechanisms bypassed so far, and nothing that those would be needed for either. Bars with attached microbreweries might have dangerous equipment somewhere, but there's usually at least a locked door between the patrons and the machinery.

Prediction for the next few comics; there's either going to be a spotlight on the laser sword in question or there's going to be dozens of chests, boxes, and/or doorways that need searching to find this laser sword. Assuming Kanata was actually telling the truth about there being a laser sword down here anyway.

Transcript

GM: Do you really want to blast the stairs?
Rey: I guess not.
Rey: I head down, easing onto each step lightly, testing to see if it will take my weight before committing. If there’s any hint of movement, I withdraw very slowly.
GM: Okay. You make your way down.
BB-8: What about me?
GM: You can roll down the steps one by one.
Rey: After me. Leave a gap as large as an adventuring party. I don’t want to get caught in your volley of arrows.
[SFX]: thunk! (BB-8 descends the stairs behind Rey}
BB-8: Do you really think they’re going to use arrows?
[SFX]: thunk!
Rey: Volley of blaster fire. Whatever.
BB-8: What if the trap is a giant stone ball rolling down the stairs?
Rey: Then the crunch as it crushes you will be all the warning I need.
