The assisted kill. I remember one game of D&D, where a wizard got a killing shot in on a big monster, with a 1d4 dagger, and got the monster share of the experience.
Of course, the first two spells that that wizard cast turn the monster from a metal armor thing (Armor Class -10) to a flesh thing (Armor Class 2). While the wizard did almost no damage, we would not have been able to finish the monster off without those spells.
Clearly, that scratch is important. Sure, it seems like it is only the paint job, but it probably placed a crack in a vital, fundamental system, so that we can see sparks flying from that spot in the next comic.
Because after all, there's always sparks flying and electronics shorting.

Chirrut: Blue Squadron! We need help!
Chirrut: That armoured tank is about to rip into my front lines!
Blue Leader: We're on it!
Grizz Frix: Ekky, this looks pretty intense.
Ekelarc Yong: Yeah, Grizzy. Certain death.
Grizz Frix: Mate, if we survive this, I'll buy drinks all night.
Ekelarc Yong: You're on!
[SFX]: Pow! Pow! Pow! {X-wings fire}
[SFX]: Kaboom! {tank blows up}
{Baze gives a thumbs up to the fighters}
Chirrut: Lucky we damaged it before the fighters arrived.
K-2SO: How did that help at all?
Chirrut: I get half the XP for the assisted kill!
