Episode 1615: Assassination for Dummies

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

This is pretty much standard operating procedure for stealth missions. You just know that somewhere along the way someone will fail a roll, guards will notice, fighting will break out, and everything will go all to pieces. This is why you always go in fully armed and armoured, even if it's intended to be a "sneak in, get the loot, and sneak out" style of operation.

The fact that being fully armed and armoured attracts penalties to Stealth rolls is neither here nor there.

[Reminder: Our guest commentators have not seen Rogue One. Part of the fun is seeing how their untainted impressions re-interpret the movie through the lens of our comic.]

I see another Jim plan emerging here.

He does have the right idea about stealth though. Your cover will inevitably be blown, and you need to be prepared for when it is. The flipside of that though, is that you also need to be prepared in case you never fail your stealth check, and how to accomplish your mission while still in stealth mode.

But I guess Jim was just trying to be realistic about his limitations regarding stealthiness.

Oh, and I'm now wondering whether Ventriloquism is indeed on Bria's sheet. That would be odd, but then I guess growing up with Kyle might have gotten boring after a while, and she needed a hobby.

This episode makes me think too much of Paranoia. I'll make it look like an accident. It's weapons R&D. I'll make it look like suicide. I'm in stealth mode. I have three blasters. Clearly, Jim/Bria is certain that the Computer, I mean, base commander can be fooled.

But how are they talking to each other when they are that far apart from each other?

Occupational hazard and safety is actually the best way to go. But we had someone call for a Ground Zero strike didn't we? What is the likelihood that that close air support will look like a mess? A company mess?

In all seriousness, Krennic just shot Galen's men, and you have to wonder if he's going to shoot Galen next. I mean, can you imagine Galen being discharged, going back to civilian life, and spreading the word about what the Empire is doing? If the Empire is competent, they'll be planning for the next move, and he won't be allowed to talk.

But that would require the Empire to be competent. He's safe.

Transcript

Bria: I sneak closer to Galen. Stealth roll... 20!
Chirrut: That's not stupid. I thought you'd charge in guns blazing.
Bria: I want to kill my dad, but it's a stealth mission. You keep stealthing until you fail, then you kill everyone.
Chirrut: So you're ready to fail then?
Bria: Sure! That's why I've got three blasters.
Chirrut: But how will you kill him if you haven't failed your Stealth yet?
Bria: I'll shoot him and make it look like an accident, so no-one knows it was me.
K-2SO: How do you make that look like an accident?
Bria: They're in a weapons research facility. It's an OH&S issue.
Bria: Or... I know! I'll make it look like suicide.
GM: It won't look like a suicide if you shoot him from over there.
Bria: I just need to plant a hand-typed suicide note on his body.
GM: ... How?
Bria: How good is my Ventriloquism?
