Episode 936: Giving the Cold Shoulder

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Graphic descriptions of the battle wounds inflicted by roleplaying combat can add to the realism and grit of your adventures.

Or they can turn players off. Check how gritty they like it first and dial up the abstraction level if necessary. Particularly important if they're playing vampires and you have practical medical training.

Transcript

GM: The wampa attacks!
[SFX]: Raaargh!!!
Luke: I wave the sword as far away from my face as possible. 17.
[SFX]: Whooom!
GM: Your sword encounters virtually no resistance as you swing desperately. The wampa's arm thuds to the ice at your feet.
[SFX]: Slice!

GM: Into the snow?

{struggles out into snow}
Luke: I'll order a vodka martini. {collapses}
[SFX]: paff
Luke: Hold...
Luke: the...
Luke: ice...
