A situation is never hopeless until you give up. Especially in a roleplaying game. You have the luxury of trying all sorts of ridiculous ideas that would get you killed in real life. You should make the most of it.
Of course they may get your character killed, but to most people that's not quite as serious a problem. And you may just get creative enough to impress your GM and get away with something outrageous.

Padmé: So, you're saying... impersonating robots can't work?
GM: Okay, that's another hour. Everyone make another Fatigue roll.
Anakin: This is hopeless. We need to try something else. What about cutting our way into the tunnels under the arena?
GM: Finally.
Padmé: Oooh, that's a good plan.
R2-D2: Yeah, these arenas always have tunnels under them!
Anakin: It was your idea, Jim.
R2-D2: Oh, it was? It'll never work.
R2-D2: But it'll be fun to watch. Go for it!
Obi-Wan: We can't spare the laser swords.
Padmé: I blast a hole!
GM: You used the last shot eight hours ago, remember?
R2-D2: I still reckon the laser sword diffraction grating should have worked.
Padmé: Well then... I throw sand at the robots until they seize up!
