Now this is a good way to add depth to your roleplaying campaign. Re-introduce an old character from so early on in the campaign that half the players have forgotten who it is. Old characters never really vanish forever. They can pop up in all sorts of unlikely places. The players will consider them as old friends (or enemies they love to hate) and enjoy the richness and consistency and fundamental interconnectedness of your campaign world.
If you're making a movie, on the other hand, this sort of thing just smacks of contrived coincidence.

Sally: Oooh. Can I play her?
GM: Yes, Sally! By all means, please... um... "Her"?
C-3PO: {Sally} My dear Lady Padmé, so delightful to see you. We should arrange a ball in your honour.

C-3PO: Except there's nobody clean enough to invite! You simply must get me off this dreadful planet!
