Some lines from the movie work so well that we simply have to include them. We were considering not doing this strip at all, but were swayed by the fact that:

Mmm, nice ship. I hope you didn't kill anyone I know to get it.

was inherently funny when transferred verbatim from the movie to our characters. It also gave us a chance to include some more characterisation for R2-D2.

We stated early on that one of our goals with this comic project was to make Jar Jar into a likeable character. Given the reactions so far, we feel we've done pretty well at that. We discussed a lot how to handle R2-D2, who is one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars. And we decided to make him annoying. It was a risk, and we knew it, but we wanted to keep mixing things up. Hopefully he's not as annoying as the real Jar Jar, though.

R2-D2: Well we haven't killed the Queen yet, but we're working on it.
GM: You really have to talk in beeps when in character. Fortunately nobody understood that comment.

Qui-Gon: She doesn't tell you everything, you know.
Watto: So are you offering me the ship or not?

GM: Pete, what on Earth are you doing??
R2-D2: I wrote a tone-generator for my PDA. This tone...

R2-D2: means "insanely cool". You're all memorising this, right?
GM: Wait, did you code that just now?
