Episode 36: On the Edge

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

When roleplaying, it's usually thought of as a good thing to immerse yourself in the character. Sally is good at playing make-believe, but not quite so good at separating the fiction from the reality. She's still learning how this gaming thing operates, and hasn't absorbed the fact that her character can do things that she wouldn't want to do in real life.

And the way the dice are falling, it might be some time before she trusts them.

Transcript

Jar Jar: Meesa can't climb!
GM: Sure you can. Just roll the dice.
Jar Jar: No!! I can't climb!
Obi-Wan: {whispering to GM} Oh... Sally fell out of a tree last month. Can you think of another way?
GM: Um...
GM: Jar Jar, what else can you do?
Jar Jar: Meesa can swim!
GM: Good! Your Swimming skill is really good. Roll the dice.
Jar Jar: 4. Oh no! That's bad!
GM: Um. It means you fall into the water.
GM: But then you can try to swim to the bank. Roll again.
Qui-Gon: You can do it!
Jar Jar: 19!
GM: You summon the last reserves of your strength to swim against the current.
Qui-Gon: I pull you to safety.
GM: The bongo goes over the waterfall and smashes into a million pieces!
Qui-Gon: Hmmm. Well that's that. I guess we go visit the Queen.
Obi-Wan: Good to be back on track.
Qui-Gon: She might give us another boat. So we can go check those ruins.
