You really have to wonder why else, in the middle of a space battle, the Trade Federation would allow an enemy fighter to simply fly straight into the main hangar on their headquarters ship. Clearly it's being stationed with conscripts or reluctant recruits who never knew what they were signing up for.

Yes, we think the idea of droids being conscripted or recruited into an army is silly too. That's why we mentioned the idea in the annotation to this strip - to poke a bit more fun at the movie. But if the idea is that silly, you can rest assured that it is not the canonical explanation within our comic. How the droids actually came to work for the Trade Federation remains unexplained within the comic for now.

Anakin: There's the headquarters ship. Fly into the hangar.

Anakin: That'd be one of those ones that keeps air in and lets ships through, right?
GM: ... Yeeess. Of course.

R2-D2: So... The Trade Federation didn't buy the force field enhancement either, huh?
Anakin: Right. Let's get out and find the Orb.
R2-D2: Wait, there are droids out there. Let me kill them first.
