Player Characters
J. Russell Finch played by Jim.
J. Russell Finch is an edible seaweed salesman, vacationing with his wife and mother-in-law.
Jim is a rather gung-ho roleplayer, interested in action, cool fight scenes, and lucrative spoils over careful consideration or puzzle solving. He frequently acts before he thinks, which includes fixating on his own strange explanations for setting details that the GM hasn't explained yet.
Lennie Pike played by Ben.
Lennie Pike is a truck driver.
Ben is a thoughtful roleplayer who tries to think through the best course of action within his character concept and the setting. He enjoys coming up with clever ways to justify the success of his plans within the premises of the setting.
"Dingy" Bell played by Pete.
"Dingy" Bell is an entertainer on his way to Las Vegas with his partner, Benjy Benjamin.
Pete is an old friend of Jim's. Jim invited him along to join in this new game. Pete designed a character to maximise all the skills he thought would come in most useful in a video game, at the cost of having Short Stature, Unpredictable Maze Movement, and Drives a Volkswagen.
Benjy Benjamin played by Sally.
Benjy Benjamin is an entertainer on his way to Las Vegas with his partner, "Dingy" Bell.
Sally is somewhat younger than the other players, but has grown to be an integral part of their gaming group. She has an active imagination and enjoys inventing details about the game setting and characters. Her gaming style is maturing as she grows older.
Emmeline Marcus-Finch played by Annie.
Emmeline Marcus-Finch is J. Russell Finch's wife.
Annie was interested to come along and see what this "roleplaying games" thing was all about, hearing it was a sort of improvisational acting thing. She is dedicated to playing her character as a real, complex person with motivations inspired by a well-considered backstory.
Melville Crump played by Corey.
Melville Crump is a dentist, vacationing with his wife.
Corey is Pete's nephew and was keen to play the "cool roleplaying game" that Pete told him about. He is relatively new to the world of tabletop RPG gaming but has adapted quickly to playing a character and thinking as they would.
Non-Player Characters
"Smiler" Grogan. "Smiler" Grogan is an ex-con who stole $350,000 in a tuna factory robbery fifteen years ago, and told the men it was buried under a "big dubble-ya" before he died. The men trust this and want the money, but Emmeline is suspicious because it sounds highly illegal. Who is right remains to be seen. Mrs Marcus. Mrs Marcus is Emmeline's mother and Russell's mother-in-law. She uses her raucous voice and overbearing personality to keep Russell and anyone else in line. How exactly she gets away with this is a mystery. |
Monica Crump. Monica Crump is the wife of Melville Crump. She keeps an eye on him and tries to keep everyone out of trouble, which seems to be a very difficult thing to do with everyone racing across California to recover the cash. Captain T.G. Culpeper. Captain Culpeper is a detective close to retirement who wants to finally close the book on the "Smiler" Grogan case. His main concern is finding the Lost $350,000 from the Phanastacoria Tuna Factory robbery. |
