A good skill to cultivate as a GM is the ability to spin a seemingly endless backstory for random NPCs at the drop of a hat. If you can pull this off seamlessly every time, it adds depth and believability to the game. Well, depending on the believability of the backstories.

And if you ever run out of ideas, just print out a random selection of Wookieepedia pages for minor characters who aren't named in the films. You probably don't even need to change any of the names.

[SFX]: pow! pow!
Lando: So that's Plan A blown out of the water.
Arvel Crynyd: Plan B never works. Did I ever tell you? Dib always tried to get us both on the straight and narrow, that was his Plan A.
Arvel Crynyd: But I insisted on trading black market spice with the infamous Montoja Intigua.
C-3PO: Who is this Dib guy you keep talking about?
Arvel Crynyd: Dib Foundway, from Kessel. I could never repay him for what he did for me. Even if he was still alive.
C-3PO: Oh, I'm so sorry. But the Rebellion needs you now.
[SFX]: pow! pow!
Chewbacca: This is all fascinating, but is now really the time to go into the huge backstory of an NPC we've never heard of?
GM: It's always a good time!
